MedPac Proposes Payment Cuts

Last week MedPac proposed to cut payments to specialists by 5.9% per year for the next three years. MedPac also proposed freezing payments to primary care physicians. These proposed cuts are of course an attempt to avoid the 29.4% cut next year to Medicare Part B.
Additionally, MedPac “encourages” physicians to join ACOs in an effort to “align payment policies for fee-schedule services with incentives for improved quality and prudent resource use”.
